In Kibera, where families struggle to survive on less than a dollar a day, Sports Aid Africa (SAA) empowers children and youth through sports, education, mentorship and holistic development, breaking cycles of poverty. Inspired by Walking with the Poor and When Helping Hurts, we prioritize dignity over dependency, fostering long- term transformation rather than short-term relief.

Why Sports Aid Africa Exists

Children and youth in Kibera and refugee communities face significant challenges, including:

  • Poverty: Limited access to basic needs.
  • Education Barriers: Few opportunities for quality learning.
  • Personal Growth: Minimal access to resources that support holistic development.

SAA bridges these gaps through programs tailored to meet physical, spiritual, and emotional needs, ensuring lasting impact and breaking cycles of poverty.


Key Statistics

  • Over 700, 000 people live in Kibera, facing extreme poverty and limited access to education, healthcare, and employment.
  • 200 students and teachers at MRPS children receive nutritious meals quartely to support their well-being and academic performance.
  • 100+disadvantaged children and youth benefit from SAA’s sports, education, scholarships, mentorship, neutritional meals, equipment, and leadership programs annually to help break cycles of poverty and hopelessness in Kibera and its environs.

Bernie Bitter

Founder

He has two children and five grandchildren. He resides in Hemel Hempstead, United Kingdom. Bernard has held several positions as an accountant and company secretary.For 31 years, Bernard has been involved in the sports movement in 18 African countries and Beijing, Sydney, Barcelona, Athens, Atlanta, Munich and Manila.

Hamisi Ogaya

UEFA B Trainer, Co-Founder & International Director

A Kenyan and a lifelong footballer, playing at the semi-pro levels, and having served in many different sports organizations including World Sports Ministry International, Ambassadors in Football International, Kickoff to Hope Kenya International, among others. He is married to Rose Hamisi, and they have a daughter, Natania Hamisi.

Tiras Magollo

Chairman & Co-Founder

A Kenyan football player, he is married to Mrs. Salome Briony Magollo. They have two daughters; Alexandria Gabriella Magollo and Raphaella Dorcas Magollo and they all live in Randburg, South Africa. Tiras has served in Athletes in Action and International Sports Leadership among other ministries.
